The best New Year’s plan is…?

12. decembar 2022.

…to stick to the plan. That’s what the statistics say.

December is the month when most people plan their goals for the next year… How many of them will actually achieve them? Scientific research shows that regardless of whether it is a good, not so good, or even great plan, most people will simply never know what the plan WAS… Why? Because they will give up on the plan very quickly, put it off for better times and will never see how that plan would have looked like if it had come to life…

In order to get a better picture, we will support and express the above in numbers:

– on average, people set exactly the same New Year’s goals every year and try to achieve them in the next 10 years! Every year from scratch and exactly the same goals!

– those who decided on a new seminar, statistically, only about 10% of them who enrolled in that seminar or embarked on the path of change and personal development will actually follow that seminar or program to the end…

– from the total number of students who enroll, e.g. music school, only about 8% complete it

– the situation is somewhat better with adults: of all students who enter the university (only), about 40% finish it…

The numbers are, as we can see, more than devastating – but, despite those statistics that ‚‚sanctify‚‚ and turn a mirror to us (or at least they should), most people consider themselves ‚‚special‚‚ and exceptional and believe that they have time and that they will achieve everything ‚‚at some point‚‚… Although, according to statistics, they are not capable of it at all and will postpone that ‚‚moment‚‚ of fulfilling the goal until infinity…

As follows, the question to ask yourself BEFORE we start down the path of change is: which group do I belong to? Is it in those 10% selected? And if so why; what is it that makes me so special that I am 100% sure that I will see my plan through to the end?

Because, willpower, internal motivation and other ‚‚guidelines‚‚ that are offered to us today in various programs lead in the wrong direction… Social psychology has proven with its experiments that the influence of the environment is stronger than our ‚‚inner‚‚ will… Instead of pressing ourselves and looking for ‚‚internal motivation‚‚ we need to surround ourselves with the right people. To those who will not trip us up, sabotage us, distract us from our goal and waste our time; those we admire and from whom we can learn something; and then work on acquiring new habits. And yes, that usually means new friends, new co-workers, newly adopted behavior and a new environment. After all, we set the New Year’s plan in order to change something, right?

Good luck in New Year 2023!
